FAL18 Q1 - Midway status update

So trying to figure out what I have left on my goals for the quarter, so let's take a look.

#1 Glazed Donuts – Need to hand stitch the binding.  It's almost done.

#2 Licence Plate Quilt -  Done, check it out here.

#3 Kaleidoscope by Quilt Addicts Anonymous - Just need to hand stitch the binding.  This one is also almost done!

#4 - Lion - Done, check it out here.

#5 – Baby Breerwood quilt (Cookie Cutter) - Done, check it out here.

#6 Christmas Tree Wall hanging - Done, check it out here.

#7 - On Ringo Lake - version 1 - This one is getting close.  All I have left to do is the quilting and the binding.  I even have a time scheduled to quilt it!

#8 On Ringo Lake - Version 2 - Done, check it out here.

#9 - Owl Quilt - Here is the inspiration for the quilt. - So this was a good idea, but now I am thinking it may never happen.  The wolf is turning out to be more work than fun.  So I am guessing this will drop off my list for Q2.

#10 - Wolf Quilt - I pulled it out the other day, does that count as working on it?  Now I need to get to working on it.

#11 Grandmother's flower garden – So the recipient for this quilt hasn't decided if they will find out the gender, but this one will either get finished this quarter or next, as the baby is due this summer.  Can't wait to finish this one.  I hope the mom-to-be likes it!

#12 Weaving with Diving board fabric - Haven't started this yet!

#13 Family Rules wall hanging - Done, check it out here.

#14 - QAA pixie dots quilt - I have started sewing this quilt.  Not sure if it will get quilted this quarter, but I am definitely going to have the top done!

#15 - Alphabet Soup - Done, check it out here.

So have you been counting?  It's only half way through the quarter and I already have 7 finishes, 3 that just need binding, and 1 that needs quilting and binding.  That means I could have 11 finishes for this quarter, if I keep up the progress!

Don't worry, the rest of the year won't be nearly as productive, as I had a lot of these close to finished last year, which means all of the hardest work on them was in 2017.

FAL18 Q1 - Cookie Cutter

The last finish I am going to post today is Cookie Cutter, a pattern by Jaybird Quilts.  I made this as a baby quilt for my cousin who was expecting, and has now had a beautiful baby boy.  I mailed the quilt off to her yesterday, so hopefully they like it.

FY18 Q1 Finish - The Lion

So sorry for the photo overload on this post, but I just love how this finish turned out.  We had a fresh snow a couple days ago, so I was able to take it outside to photograph.  Then I finally hung it up in my bedroom, so I had to take some more photos...right?

The pattern is Violet Craft's Lion, and it is paper pieced out of Cherrywood hand-dyed fabrics.   Violet's patterns are so easy to follow.  I am going to make the Elephant next, then the Giraffe, then maybe the wolf (have to finish my pixalated wolf first.  The fabulous quilting was done by Natalia Bonner.

FAL18 Q1 - Alphabet Quilt

I have loved making letters following the patterns in the Jaybird Quilts Alphabet Soup book.  After making pillows for my nieces, I knew I needed some letters to be created as samples during the class I was teaching at Quilt Addicts Anonymous.

So I decided to make this quilt.  Once the letters were done, I knew it needed a border.  So I made up some flying geese out of the leftover fabric.  You can't tell from these photos but the letters are made from Ombre Dots, and I love how this turned out!

FAL18 Q1 Finish - License Plate Quilt

So by now you are probably thinking, dang that's a lot of finishes....oh and you would be right, but this is only part of them.  Last weekend I was able to machine stitch the binding on 10 quilts, which meant they just needed to be hand finished.

These are license plates I collected between 2015 - 2017, as part of the Row by Row challenge.  I actually did a a row by row quilt in 2015 and won two bundles of Batik fat quarters (I should cut into them sometime).

I modified the pattern a bit based on the number of plates I had.

FAL18 Q1 Finish - Christmas Tree Wall Hanging

I also got the Christmas Tree wall hanging completed.  Since I didn't get it completed before last Christmas I will have to wait till this Christmas to display it....but it's done!

Love that the modern look to it.

FAL18 Q1 - Family Rules Wall Hanging

I finished up this wall hanging the other day.  Now I just have to decide for sure where it is going to reside in my house.  I have a couple of ideas, but one would require at least some of the frames on my photo wall to me moved.

FAL Q1 Finish - Bonnie Hunter On Ringo Lake mystery #2

So here is the second quilt I made as part of the Bonnie Hunter Mystery.

I am happy to say that this quilt is also a finish of one of my goals for the 2018 Finish-a-long.  You may notice I also changed up the colors on this one.  I decided to make this one as a gift for a very, very big Cubs fan.  The backing is made from Cubs fabric and the front is lots of Blues and Reds.  This one is controlled scrappy, based on what fat quarters and other fabric I had in my stash.  All of the fabrics for the top came from the stash!  Which makes it a nice stash buster (even though you can't tell by looking at my stash)!

As you can tell I changed up the sashing on this one.  I didn't have fun with the parallelograms on the first one, and saw something similar to this on Instagram, and decided to do it.

Best place to photograph a quilt in the winter...on my bed.

Close-up.  All over quilting since the fabrics are so busy and detailed quilting wouldn't show.

Cubs fabric on the back

All ready for it's new owner...after a bath.

Bonnie Hunter Mystery - Quilt #1

So I decided to make two quilts from Bonnie Hunter's On Ringo Lake Mystery.  For both I changed up the colors.  This one is bright blue & orange, cream and a dark blue.  All batiks.

I was able to get the top finished, then moved on to the second quilt.  I have an appointment to rent time on the long-arm in March for this one.  But wanted to get the other one done first as it's a gift!
