On Ringo Lake Mystery:Clue 5 - Bonnie Hunter Mystery 2017

So I was able to finish not only clue 4, but also 5, and the ironing from 3.

I also had time to do some of the cutting for my second quilt.  All of the black I will need.

On Ringo Lake Mystery:Clue 4 - Bonnie Hunter Mystery 2017

I didn't get very far on Clue #4 this weekend.  But I did finsh the sewing for clue #3, still need to iron all of them.

Here is the cutting I did get done.

Instead of working on the mystery, I was working on this Daschound wall hanging for a holiday swap at my local quilt shop.

On Ringo Lake Mystery:Clue 3 - Bonnie Hunter Mystery 2017

This week has been a busy one.  I started the mystery quilt week one using a bright blue, bright orange, cream, and a dark navy blue.  This quilt will be all made out of batiks.  The further I got into the quilt I decided I had plenty of time each week, after finishing the first two clues within the weekend that they were released.

So, call me crazy, but I started a second quilt.  This second quilt had the colors picked based on the person/family I plan to give it to.  The colors for the second quilt will be Red, Blue, Cream and Black.  For this one I am using my printed fabrics….no batiks.  The family I plan on giving it to are huge Cubs fans, so hopefully the colors will be right up their alley.

I think the two quilts will turn out similar, but still uniquely different.

So this week is week three.  The units we are creating when put together look like chevrons.  Although I am assuming when Bonnie Hunter reveals the final layout they probably will not be Chevrons, but separated in the quilt.  This block I really had trouble with.  I wanted to do the no waste method, but tried a couple times and my blocks kept coming up to small.  So when all else fails use the tried and true, stitch and flip method.  Even though there is waste, there isn’t much waste.  The left over triangles are so tiny, I doubt Josie (the person I give my scraps to) will even want them.  She will get them, and if they are too small, she will just throw them away.  I don’t typically like small pieces.  If it’s smaller than 2.5 inches square, I typically will put it in a bag for Josie.  She uses anything and everything, and makes the scraps look beautiful.

Anyway, I haven’t finished Clue #3 for quilt 1, as we need a large number of each, but have the clue 3/4 done.   Then onto the second set, if I get to it this week.  If not, I will start work on Clue #4 and come back to Clue #3 as I have time.

Bonnie Hunter Mystery - Clue 2

I finished clue 2 today, which was to make a gaggle of geese.

You may noticed I changed up my colors a bit.

I am using Cream, Bright Light Blue, Orange, and a Dark Blue.

Q4 Finish-a-long Goals

Here are my goals for Q4, in no particular order (although to be fair, I did move the new projects to the top of the list since they are more likely to be completed).

#1 Glazed Donuts – Since I finished 7 quilts last week.  Yes you read that correctly (I was behind on binding), and finished a bag that was not on my goals list, I figured I would reward myself with cutting for a new quilt.  I’ve had the colored fabrics for a while now, and raided my stash and found that I had just enough solid black for the neutral.  I have made two baby quilts from this pattern, so I know what I am doing, and I am guessing this one will be quick and easy to put together.  This quilt will be added to my growing collection for my bed.

#2 Licence Plate Quilt - This fabric is from a shop hop in 2015 and some plates from 2016, and needs to be made into a quilt.  I previously had a different plan but then found a pattern with a car, and the plates around the car.  I need to applique the center and then piece the outer borders. I have picked up a few more licence plates in 2017, so I am hoping I have enough.

#3 Kaleidoscope by Quilt Addicts Anonymous - I am working on this quilt as a Block of the Month, which ends in December.  So, depending on when I get in to quilt this one, it may actually be complete by the end of the quarter.

#4 - Name for Ruby - Need to finish this.  It will be a pillow, and it needs to be done for Christmas.  The front is done it just needs quilting and then the back envelope.

#5 - Name for Pearl - Like the name for Ruby, I am making Pearl's name into a pillow, and it needs to be done for Christmas.

#6 - Lion - While at the Spring quilt show, I visited the Cherrywood table, and fell in love with their version of this lion.  I already had the pattern at home, so I purchased the fabrics.  I was able to get the Lion most of the way completed at my Summer Retreat, and then finsihed it as soon as I returned home.  I then sent it off to be quilted.  Once it’s returned (I can’t wait to see what the quilter does with it) I will bind and label it!  I am hoping it will be done this quarter.

#7 – Baby Breerwood quilt – My cousin is having a baby, not till 2018, but this calls for a baby quilt.  I am planning on doing the Cookie Cutter, by Jaybird Quilts pattern.  Here are the fabrics I am currently planning to use.

#8 Wall Hanging: Totem Poles – I haven’t worked on this in forever.  I either need to finish it or scrap it.  I really like the Totem Poles (there are two of them, but apparently my photo only shows one), but have learned better techniques to applique from the time I started this, so a decision needs to be made on if it’s going to actually be completed or if I will eventually abandon it.  I really thought the idea of these was great, but if I don’t work on these this quarter I am going to toss the project and add the border fabrics to my stash!

#9 Shop Hop Quilt – in 2015 I made a quilt with half of the kits I purchased during my shop hop.  The rest need to me put together into a second quilt.  Right now it's a pile of fabric for each row.

#10 Flower panels - While cleaning I found these, and had forgotten about them.  These panels are backed and need to be stitched and turned into a cute bag.  I have put this off for so long I think I am just going to toss these on the long-arm to do simple quilting (rather than trying thread painting), and make them into a quick and easy bag!

#11 Christmas Tree Wall hanging - I got this panel from a local quilt shop.  It just needs some borders and will make a cute wall hanging.  I know Christmas just ended, but if I do it now, it will be ready for next Christmas.

#12 - Owl Quilt - Here is the inspiration for the quilt.

#13 - Wolf Quilt - Here is the inspiration for the quilt.  I have purchased by fabric and have cut about half of the pieces.  Hopefully I will get a new design wall up soon, and then I can layout the entire top and continue working on it!

#14 Grandmother's flower garden – This quilt only needs binding, but will be on the list for a while as once it has a recipient I will pick the binding based on the babies gender.

#15 Weaving with Diving board fabric.  The weaving will either become a bag or a wall hanging.

Those are my goal for Q4!  I hope to finish many of them!

Q3 Finish - #15 Rainbow Layer Cake by Quilt Addicts Anonymous

This quarter has an unintended theme.  Quilts made from Jaybird patterns and quilts made from QAA patterns.  QAA is my local quilt shop and I have become good friends with the owner over the last 8 or 9 year (long before she owned a quilt shop).  As such I love to support her shop and business.  I also love the patterns she has designed.  Here is one of my latest finishes from the Quilt Addicts Anonymous Rainbow Layer Cake pattern!

Sorry for the cruddy photo, as I went outside to photograph the quilts it started to rain :(

Q3 Finish - #16 Refraction by Quilt Addicts Anonymous

This quarter I was able to finish this quilt, and love how it turned out. Here is one of my latest finishes from the Quilt Addicts Anonymous Refraction pattern!

Q3 Finish - #4 Cinnamon Bun

Last quarter (Q2) was productive for me, as far as piecing and quilting goes.  Binding...not so much.  This quilt is one that has sat most of the quarter, but on September 10th I decided that my pile of seven (yes you read that correctly), quilts really needed binding.  I had three set’s already made and got them attached that evening after little man was in bed, and was also able to make two additional set’s of binding.  The following night I turned on a little Monday night football and knocked out the last two sets of binding.  Then the hand sewing marathon began.  I am happy to say that this quilt is now complete, and will make an appearance on my bed this winter.  With all of these finishes, plus my current quilts I may have to start putting two different quilts on my bed each month.  Right now I rotate through my quilts (I always have 2 on the bed), and the quilt on the bottom comes to the top the following month….this looks like it may have to change.  My original goal was to have 12 quilts for my bed…equaling one per month.  Not counting this quarters finishes I am up to 15 or 16.  And I have more in process.  I already give lots of quilts away, but may need to start figuring out who I need to make a quilt for and focus on gifts for a while.  I know my sisters will always welcome new quilts into their homes, and my son always loves new quilts for his bed.

Q3 Finish - #1 Boomerang

I love blues and when I saw the Boomerang (by Jaybird Quilts) cover girl, I knew I was going to make this quilt in Blues and Greens.  I quilted this massive king sized quilt on Gertie at Quilting-by-You.  The quilt was so large I had to use Gertie for the first time.  Gertie doesn't have a stitch regulator, like I am used to, so I was a bit intimidated, but once I got going I was okay.  Next time I think I will be able to do a more detailed quilting design.  Either way I was able to finish this one up, and plan to put it on my bed this winter, as it will keep me nice and warm!

Q3 Finish - #2 Ditto

As you may know I love making Jaybird quilt patterns.  When a local quilt shop was closing I picked out this pattern Ditto - by Jaybird Quilts, to make my son a second twin sized quilt.  It's gets chilly in the Midwest in the winter months.

It's all done!

Q3 Finish - #17 - Quilt for Ruby

I was able to finish the this quilt for my niece this quarter.  She will receive it as her Christmas present.  My sister asked that I make the quilt to coordinate with her twin’s and the room that they share.  I found all of the fabrics at Hancock’s of Paducah.

Q3 Finish- #5 Baby Quilt

This weekend I put the final stitches into a baby quilt for my cousin's baby that was due this coming week.  After finishing the last stitches I logged on to Facebook to see that the beautiful baby girl had been born that morning.

I guess I am a little late at mailing it off.  Hope she likes it.

I am on a roll this quarter.  Hoping this roll lasts!

Q3 Finish: #21 - Banner for friend's quilt shop

I have my first finish of the quarter done, and handed off to the new owner!  I was working on the binding the past couple of nights, and it's finally finished with hanging sleeves and all.

My friend owns Quilt Addicts Anonymous, which is an online and brick & mortar shop.  Stephanie has known for a few years that I love all Jaybird Quilts patterns, so when she was at Market she picked up a copy of the latest Jaybird book for me, Alphabet Soup.  As soon as I picked up the book I knew I was going to be making some letters, but didn't know what all to do.  A couple people on the QAA instagram feed suggested that the shop needed a sign out of the letters, and that got me thinking.  Stephanie picked out the fabric for the sign, ensuring it would coordinate with the walls in the shop.  I haven't gotten a photo of it in it's new environment, but will once it is hung.

Here are the banners (my first finish of Q3):

Here is a close-up of just the Quilt banner:

Here is a close-up of all three:

2017 Q3 Finish-a-long Goals

Here are my Goals for this quarter, in no particular order (although to be fair, I did move the new projects to the top of the list since they are more likely to be completed).

#1 Boomerang - It's quilted.  Just needs binding!  Here is a photo of it on Gertie at Quilting-by-You.  The quilt was so large I had to use Gertie for the first time.  Gertie doesn't have a stitch regulator, like I am used to, so I was a bit intimidated, but once I got going I was okay.  Next time I think I will be able to do a more detailed quilting design.

#2 Ditto - Guess what.  Not only is the top complete, but the quilting is done as well.  All this quilt needs is binding!

#3 Glazed Donuts - As you probably know by now, I love Jaybird Quilt patterns.  When my local quilt shop had a going out of business sale I went in with projects in mind.  Can't wait to do this one.  Looking at this stack it looks like I need to pull a neutral from my stash...now to decide if I use white or black.  Black is my go to neutral, but if I keep this quilt for myself I could use white, as it will just be on my bed. Decisions, decisions.  I didn't get around to this quilt in Q2, so I am thinking it will be great to work on in Q3.

#4 Cinnamon Bun - Q2 was productive for me, as far as piecing and quilting goes.  Binding...not so much.  The top and quilting are complete, but guess what...the binding still needs to be done.  I don't hate binding, I just haven't sat down to do any lately.  Too many cute quilts to piece.

#5 Baby Quit #1 (girl) – This quilt just needs binding.

#6 Wall Hanging: Totem Poles – I haven’t worked on this in forever.  I either need to finish it or scrap it.  I really like the Totem Poles (there are two of them, but apparently my photo only shows one), but have learned better techniques to applique from the time I started this, so a decision needs to be made on if it’s going to actually be completed or if I will eventually abandon it.  I am going to Paducah at the end of April, and I am thinking this would be a good hand project to get out.

#7 Grandmother's flower garden – Guess what.  I decided to machine quilt this one, so it is done, and ready for binding.  This may stay on the list for a while, as I want to bind it based on the babies gender, and that won't be known for quite a while.

#8 Licence Plate Quilt - This fabric is from a shop hop in 2015 and some plates from 2016, and needs to be made into a quilt.  I am thinking 1-2 borders on each plate, then piecing them all together.

#9 Shop Hop Quilt - Last year I made a quilt with half of the kits I purchased during my shop hop.

I have purchased by fabric and will get started once a couple other, already in process, quilt are finished.

#14 Kaleidoscope by Quilt Addicts Anonymous - I am working on this quilt as a Block of the Month, so it won't actually get finished this quarter, but I don't want to lose track of it.

#15 Rainbow Layer Cake by Quilt Addicts Anonymous - All it needs is binding!

#16 Refraction by Quilt Addicts Anonymous - The top is done, just need to buy backing, quilt and bind it.

#17 - Quilt for Ruby - I made the top in Q2, after buying the fabric on my trip to Paducah.  Just needs to be quilted and bound.

#18 - Quilt for Pearl - I made the top in Q2, after buying the fabric on my trip to Paducah.  Just needs to be quilted and bound.

#19 - Name for Ruby - Need to finish this.  It will either be a sign or a pillow.

#20 - Name for Pearl - Like the name for Ruby, I am making Pearl's name also into either a sign or pillow.  It will be made out of the leftovers of this fabric.

#21 - Banner for friend's quilt shop - I am making a banner for my friends quilt shop with Alphabet Soup (Jaybird Quilts) letters.

#22 - Lion - While at the Spring quilt show, I visited the Cherrywood table, and fell in love with their version of this lion.  I already had the pattern at home, so I purchased the fabrics.  I am hoping to make this quilt at retreat in August.

Those are my goal for Q3!  I hope to finish many of them!
