Q1 - Mini Northern Lights

With the leftovers from the Northern Lights twin size quilt I made, I have made a mini version.  The pattern is Mini Northern Lights by Jaybird quilts.  I love having a mini version of this quilt to add to my collection of miniature quilts!

Q1 - Mini Splash

After completing my full sized Splash quilt I was inspired to make the mini quilt, out of the scraps.  This pattern is by Jaybird Quilts.  This quilt is only be 12.5 x 15.5 inches.  This quilt was a challenge, because the pieces are so small.  It didn’t help that I was working on by new back-up machine, as my main machine was back in the shop due to a piece breaking for the second time.  I am happy to say that my main machine is back, and that made quilting this quilt a breeze.

Q1 - Leaf quilt

This quilt is complete and is one of my favorite quilts.  I have a one person close to me that keeps saying this quilt is going to disappear from my house and end up at his.  I know he would never take it, so this is a great complement and makes me smile.

Q1 Summary

Here is my summary for the Q1 of the year.  Boy did I get a lot of UFO’s completed, and as a result I need to figure out what I am going to work on in Q2.

#1 Leaf quilt – This quilt is complete and is one of my favorite quilts.  I have a one person close to me that keeps saying this quilt is going to disappear from my house and end up at his.  I know he would never take it, so this is a great complement and makes me smile.

#2 Metallic quilt – Last quilt retreat (October) I debated and debated about buying this fabric, and on the 3^rd day of “visiting it” at the local quilt shop, I finally bit the bullet and bought it.  Overall I like how it turned out.  The last border isn’t perfect, but I finished the quilt top on the day I ran over my finger with my sewing machine.  I was really wanting to finish the quilt in one day, so I rushed the last border a bit, and as a result there is a little bit of extra fabric.

#4 Dr. Who – This art quilt was started back in 2013 as part of a Paper Piecing Quilt-a-long.  Until I started this quilt I had only done a minimal amount of Paper Piecing.  It was a new technique for me that I wanted to master, so I started with some of the simpler blocks and then jumped feet first into the harder blocks.  This quilt took many hours to finish, approximately 800.  The Angel block alone took 17 hours to make!  Each block is stitched with a Gallifreyan description of the block.

I have a confession to make.  I have never watched Dr. Who, so this quilt I have decided to sell.  I think it should live at a home that can appreciate the meanings of each block.  The quilt can be found for sale on my Ebay.

AJ (the recipient) has three main favorite colors, blue, green and grey.  I decided to use another Jaybird Quilts pattern Northern Lights.  The quilt is complete and just needs to be mailed off to AJ.  I hope he likes it!

This quarter I was hoping to finish goal #1, 2, 4, 5, 7 and 8.  I was able to get #2, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 8 complete.  I can’t believe I finished 6 of my 10 (11^th project can’t be completed till the end of the year) projects this quarter!  I was shooting for completing as many as possible of them, got quite a few done!  Now I need to figure out what projects to complete next quarter!

The goals I didn’t complete are, the following:

#3 Winter Quilt - Just needs binding and a label.

#6 Stain Glass Block of the month - This quilt will not be complete in Q1, but I want to make sure to keep it on the radar.  A group of friends all decided to do a paper pieced block of the month quilt.  The design is by Ula Lenz and the pattern can be found here.  I was able to finish the blocks for January, February and March.

#9 Wall Hanging: Totem Poles – This one I am not sure where the project is currently even at!  Probably should find it and finish it.

#10 Grandmother's flower garden – This one is on the back burner, I think I need more flowers.

 #11 Gravity. I began working on this quilt at the last quilt retreat, but ran out of the correct colors.  I can't wait to put this one on my bed.  It's ready to be quilted and is already on the schedule to be quilted in April.

Over the past few years I have made quilts for a great friend of mine, and her daughter.  I figure it's about time I make her son a new quilt.  I say new quilt because he recieved one of the first two baby quilts I made...but that was over 10 year ago.

AJ (the recipient) has three main favorite colors, blue, green and grey.  I decided to use another Jaybird Quilts pattern Northern Lights.  The quilt is complete and just needs to be mailed off to AJ.  

Update: Since I was delayed in getting the photos loaded for this post, I can now say that AJ loves his new quilt.  The colors were spot on.

Q1 - Dr. Who

This art quilt was started back in 2013 as part of a Paper Piecing Quilt-a-long. 2016 finish-a-long Q1 Goals

Here are my goals for Q1 of 2016!

#1 Leaf quilt - Well this quilt didn't get finished last quarter, but I did get the top sewn together, including borders.  I plan to complete this quilt during Q1. 

#2 Metallic quilt – This quilt was made mainly because of the fabric.  I absolutely love the metallic colors.  This needs to be quilted and bound, and I am determined to complete it during Q1.

#3 Winter quilt – I am making progress on this quilt.  Over my Christmas Shutdown I worked on the had stitching for this quilt.  As of today am on the last block that needs to be hand sewn and then I need to make all of the pieced block.  This will be a stretch to get completed but I am hoping to get it done.

#4 Dr. Who – I finally started working on this quilt again this week.  I attempted Quilt as you go, and am not liking how I need to finish it.  I have decided I am going to put this one on the Long-arm I rent and get it done.  This will be done quarter, if I have any say!

Once this is complete I am thinking about selling it, as I have never watched Dr. Who, and only did it as it looked like a fun project.

Those are my goals for this Quarter, and in reality I hope to finish #1, 2, 4, 5, 7 and 8.  Any more than that would be an added bonus.

Hugs & Kisses - baby #2 (red)

I am a bit late posting this but I finally finished the baby quilts for my cousin who had her twin girls in November.

I used the Jaybird Quilts Hugs and Kisses pattern to make each of these quilts.  Since they look identical, even though I changed the placement of fabrics, I did the binding in different colors.  One has red and the other has blue binding.

Q4 Finishes Summary

Here is a summary of my Quarter 4 finishes.

#1 & #2 Baby Quilts - I finished these two quilts just after the babies arrived early.  They have been sent to the new owner and she loves them.  I used the Jaybird Quilts Hugs & Kisses pattern with a Red, White and Blue jelly roll that I purchased a few years ago.  Click here to see more about these quilts - Red and Blue.

#3 Zig Zag - Number 3 on my list is a quilt for a good friend of mine.  He told me he would like a blue and gray quilt and it wasn’t till I was half way done with the top that I realized I was making a Detroit Lions quilt, basically, when I am a huge Bears fan.  Oh well, he loves the quilt and that is all that matters.  Here is a photo of it from the mini photo shoot I did.  Click here to see more about this quilt.

Wonton Baby Quilt

My cousin Emily is expecting her first arrival on Valentine's day, so I decided to make the baby a quilt.

I chose the Wonton quilt pattern by Jaybird Quilts.

Splash

A quilt that was not on my radar at the beginning of the quarter is now complete.

Splash was made for my good friend Scotty's son.  His favorite colors are blue and pink, so I thought Splash by Jaybird Quilts would be a great pattern to chose.

And here is the finished quilt.  I hope the 6 yr old recipient loves it!  I gave it to my friend last night and he absolutely loved it.

Christmas Presents - Rock Candy

For Christmas this year I decided to make my mom and my boyfriends mom table toppers.  Once again I used a Jaybird Quilts pattern....can you tell I love her patterns?  The pattern I used is called Rock Candy.  I love how the table toppers turned out.  Hopefully the recipients love them too.

I also have a fourth table topper in process, but it still needs to be quilted.  Stay tune for more on this project.
