Q2 Finish-A-Long Goals

Here are my Goals for this quarter, in no particular order (although to be fair, I did move the new projects to the top of the list since they are more likely to be completed).

#1 Boomerang - I love the Jaybird Quilts patterns and could not wait to make this one.  One of my local quilt shops is closing, so I picked up the fabric to make this quilt.  I started putting it together during Q1, and was able to get the top completed, but hopefully will quilt and bind it during Q2.

#2 Ditto - This is another Jaybird Quilt pattern that I plan to make this summer.  This quilt may end up on my sons bed, but I may decide to just keep it for the living room.  I have never been big on buying fabric for a specific project, but this is another quilt where I picked out fabric specifically for this pattern (from the closing quilt shop).

#3 Glazed Donuts - As you probably know by now, I love Jaybird Quilt patterns.  When my local quilt shop had a going out of business sale I went in with projects in mind.  Can't wait to do this one.  Looking at this stack it looks like I need to pull a neutral from my stash...now to decide if I use white or black.  Black is my go to neutral, but if I keep this quilt for myself I could use white, as it will just be on my bed. Decisions, decisions.

#4 Cinnamon Bun - Have you caught on the the pattern yet? I love Jaybird Quilt patterns!  This is another quilt where I bought the fabric at my local shops going out of business sale.  I started cutting fabric for this quilt the other night and am excited to finish this top, and then quilt it up.

#5 Baby Quit #1 (girl) – One shop closed and a new shop opened. My friend just opened a quilt shop in my hometown, which is right across the river from where I live.  This new shop is an 8 minute drive from my house, and could be dangerous to my budget.

Have you hear of the online shop Quilt Addicts Anonymous ?  Well she now has a brick and mortar shop in Rock Island, IL.  While attending a workshop at the new store, a batch of pretty grey and white fabrics were delivered.  I had the Jaybird Quilts - Comet pattern at home (also available in her shop) and after staring at the pattern while at the shop and then mulling it over for a couple days decided it would make a cute baby quilt.   The top went together really quickly, now I just need an appointment at the longarm, so I can quilt it before the baby arrives in August.

#6 Baby Quilt 2 (known) & #7 Baby Quilt 3 (unknown) - For items #6 & #7 on my list I will be making the Glazed Donuts pattern by Jaybird Quilts.  I normally don't do the same baby quilt for two different babies, but I have made a few exceptions over the years, when my sister and my cousin both had twins.  Although these two babies aren't twins, they are going to be cousins, and they are due within a month of each other.  I grew up with the father's of these two babies, and regularly see the Mother and Sister of the two brothers. One brother knows the gender of the baby (but it's a secret still, so I can't say...even though I know) and the other brother isn't going to find out the gender until the baby is born.  So I will be making quilt #6 based on the babies gender and quilt #7 will be in neutral colors.

#8 Wall Hanging: Totem Poles – I haven’t worked on this in forever.  I either need to finish it or scrap it.  I really like the Totem Poles (there are two of them, but apparently my photo only shows one), but have learned better techniques to applique from the time I started this, so a decision needs to be made on if it’s going to actually be completed or if I will eventually abandon it.  I am going to Paducah at the end of April, and I am thinking this would be a good hand project to get out. 

#9 Grandmother's flower garden – I made great progress on this quilt during Q1.  Now I just need to finish it.  I decided to applique it on to the border fabric, and then will quilt and bind it.  The jury is still out on if I will hand quilt it, or if I will machine quilt it.

#10 Licence Plate Quilt - This fabric is from a shop hop in 2015 and some plates from 2016, and needs to be made into a quilt.  I am thinking 1-2 borders on each plate, then piecing them all together.

 #11 Shop Hop Quilt - Last year I made a quilt with half of the kits I purchased during my shop hop.  The rest need to me put together into a second quilt.  Right now it's a pile of fabric for each row.

#12 Flower panels - While cleaning I found these, and had forgotten about them.  These panels are backed and need to be stitched and turned into a cute bag.  I have put this off for so long I think I am just going to toss these on the long-arm to do simple quilting (rather than trying thread painting), and make them into a quick and easy bag!

#13 Christmas Tree Wall hanging - I got this panel from a local quilt shop.  It just needs some borders and will make a cute wall hanging.  I know Christmas just ended, but if I do it now, it will be ready for next Christmas.

#14 - Owl Quilt - Here is the inspiration for the quilt.

#15 - Wolf Quilt - Here is the inspiration for the quilt.  I have purchased by fabric and will get started once a couple other, already in process, quilt are finished.

#16 Kaleidoscope by Quilt Addicts Anonymous - I am working on this quilt as a Block of the Month, so it won't actually get finished this quarter, but I don't want to lose track of it.

#17 Rainbow Layer Cake by Quilt Addicts Anonymous - I took this as a class from the designer - Stephanie, and hope to have it done this quarter.  I have all of the blocks sewn, but need to decide on the layout, as I don't like the dark purple triangles at the top.

 #18 Refraction by Quilt Addicts Anonymous - I bought fabric and pattern kit from Quilt Addicts Anonymous and want to make it this quarter.  I just love the bright colors.

Those are my goal for Q2!  I hope to finish many of them!

Abandoned Projects from last quarter’s list

Tissue Holders - I started these probably 5 years ago.  There are parts for at least 25 holders.  I started to work on this Q4 last year and realized that the pieces I had cut were either side A or B, but the A ones didn't coordinate color-wise with the B ones.  As such I have made the decision to abandon this project and provide the pieces to my friends who own a long-arm shop and make tissue holders for craft fairs they attend. 

Q1 Finish - #7 Midnight Flight

I took the Midnight Flight class from Bonnie Hunter during her visit to my local guild during the Summer of 2016. I completed the quilt top during Q4 of 2016, but still needed to quilt it.  I am happy to say it is now complete and ready for use on my bed.

The Blue and Orange I really wanted to stand out as those are the colors for my favorite Football team (Chicago Bears)!

Q1 Finish - #12 - Darth Vader quilt

This quilt was made for my Nephew's 6th birthday.  It may look just like a quilt I completed last year, and that's because it is the exact same panel, I made for my son's birthday.  When my son opened his quilt last year I could tell that my nephew really liked the quilt and was possibly a bit jealous of it. As such I started hunting for another kit...and couldn't find one.  Fast forward to quilt retreat in October, and a shop owner who was attending showed the panel she completed, and I asked if she knew where I could find it for sale, and she said she had 2 left in stock.

I purchased one right then and there, and she mailed the kit a few days later.

I did use a different backing and binding on this one, as my son was really concerned they may mix them up (even though the labels have their names).

Q1 Finish - #8 Tula Pinks - 100 modern blocks

During the summer and fall of 2016 I participated in the #100blocks100days challenge on Instagram. The challenge consisted of posting one completed block a day for 100 days.  I successfully completed the challenge, with only a couple of delayed postings due to life or technical issues.  

I finished the top during Q4 of 2016, and was able to quilt and bind it this quarter.

Q1 Finish - #11 Northern Lights

Last year I had a goal to finish the last of the #12quiltsforMe.  I completed that goal, but fell in love with the Jaybird Quilts Northern Lights pattern.  I decided I needed a Valentine's Day quilt made in this pattern, so I hit up the local quilt shop, which was going out of business, and scored a great deal on fabrics for this quilt.  I didn't have the quilt finished in time for Valentine's Day, but it did get completed!

2017 - Q1 Finish-a-long Goals

Here are my Goals for this quarter, in no particular order.

#1 Wall Hanging: Totem Poles – I need to figure out where I put this project, so that I can finish it.

#2 Grandmother's flower garden – This was on the back burner, until I had a work trip scheduled in Little Rock, Arkansas.  I was able to get part of the top together but now need to put more flowers together.  I am also second guessing my decision to make this a baby quilt....which means it may end up as a Queen Sized quilt.  

I hopefully will complete it this quarter, but only if I keep making more flowers.

#3 Licence Plate Quilt - This fabric is from a shop hop last year, and needs to be made into a quilt.  I am thinking 1-2 borders on each plate, then piecing them all together.

 #4 Shop Hop Quilt - Last year I made a quilt with half of the kits I purchased during my shop hop.  The rest need to me put together into a second quilt.  Right now it's a pile of fabric for each row.

Q4 - Inside Out Pineapple baby quilt

This pattern can be found online as a free pattern.

The quilt has been finished for my cousin's baby which is due in February, and has been happily received by the mom. #2016FAL

Q4 Finish - Stain Glass Block of the month

I finished!  I completed my 2016 Block of the Month (BOM) and put the last stitches in the binding on December 31st.   In all fairness it was 99% done by Christmas Day, I just hadn't fixed a little spot I caught until the 31st.

Q4 Finish-a-long = Project #7 Monkey Gifts

I have finished my first project of the 4th Quarter.  Twice a year I go to a quilt retreat where eight of us sit together on the porch, and have a blast.  We are the Monkey's on the Porch.  Each retreat we each bring an item for the other Monkey's.  Sometimes the items are handmade other times it something from the store.  

Last year when I saw the row by row for a Rockford, IL quilt shop was a monkey rowing a boat, I knew I had to use it for the Monkey Gifts.

Here is the final project.  I made a friendship quilt, where all the blocks are able to be taken home by each person.  There is only one way for the quilt to go together as the sashing pieces only match up one way.

I finally finished them tonight, and I hope they like them! #2016FAL

Q4 Finish-a-long Goals

Here are my Goals for this quarter, in no particular order.

#1 Stain Glass Block of the month - This quilt will not be completed until Q4, but I want to make sure to keep it on the radar.  A group of friends all decided to do a paper pieced block of the month quilt.  The design is by Ula Lenz and the pattern can be found here. 

I currently am up to 9 blocks complete, after third quarter and hope to finish this quilt during Q4

#4 Inside Out Pineapple baby quilt - I found this pattern online as a free pattern, and think it would make a great baby quilt for my cousin who is expecting.  I was going to set the blocks next to each other, then when I pinned them up on my design wall and they rotated themselves, I got to thinking that on point might also be cute. 

I have to finish this baby quilt this quarter as the baby will be born soon!

When working on this project last quarter it took a bit of a turn in design. The monkey in the pattern was bigger than I thought so rather than pin cushions I am making a friendship quilt that will be in 8 pieces.  This will get done in quarter 3, as it's for my retreat in October.

I have the blocks done, but need to do the binding.  This will be done in Q4 for sure!

#11 Tula Pinks - 100 modern blocks - I decided to join in a quilt-a-long that is completing one block a day for 100 days.  I am almost half way through making the blocks and hope to finish this quilt in Q4.

#12 - Star Wars pillow case - My son loves Star Wars, so I bought this fabric to make him a pillow case, now I just need to make it.

#15 Northern Lights - I made a quilt from this pattern for my friends son, and loved the look.  I also learned a few things about what fabrics I picked.  These fabrics will make a queen sized version for my bed in Valentines Day colors.  Note, the order shown is not the correct order....the fabrics got mixed up when I was at the store, so I have to re-figure out the order I decided on.

Those are my goal for Q4!  I hope to finish many of them!

Modern Baby Quilt

This quilt wasn't part of my goals, but was a quilt-a-long on Facebook that I stumbled on, and decided to make.

Q3 Finish - Project #22 Hexagon Quilt

This last finish is a quilt I made on a complete whim, and it was pretty fast to put together.  Julie Herman of Jaybird Quilts has been showing us a hexagon quilt over the last couple of months, that she is slowly adding to.  As I was cleaning up my quilting room one day, I had many 10 inch squares left from my gravity quilt, and this quilt was born.

It is now complete and being used on my bed.  

This finish also is my 12 Queen Sized quilt that I have kept for myself and my bed!

Q3 Finish - Project #21 Construction Jobsite Baby Quilt

This is another quilt that I planned to make for my son, but I never got around to it.  But now that it's complete I will find a little one who will enjoy it!
